Wednesday finished second in their group, but it was not good enough to qualify for the latterstages of the competition.
Sheffield Wednedsay are joinging Spurs and Wimbledon in the Intertoto Cup, a competition between 60 teams to determine four places in the preliminary round of the UEFA cup.
60 clubs will be involved this summer in the INTERTOTO cup. 10 of the 49 national football association have told UEFA they were not interested (amongst which Italy and Spain). The 60 places will be given to the 39 remaining countries on the basis of the UEFA coefficients:Germany and France will have 4 clubs;Belgium,Portugal and ENGLAND 3. Each national association should give its clubs before 31 May.It should be those just behind the clubs who directly qualified for the UEFA cup.
The first draw will take place at Nyon(Switzerland) on 7 June.The 60 teams will be there divided in 12 groups of 5. Each team will play once against the other teams of its group:It will be like the Rugby tournament :2 home games and two away games. The matches will take place between 24 June and 23 July.I think the teams will only play during week-ends:there are 5 week-ends between these two dates so there will be one week-end of rest for each team like in the 5 nations tournament.
The 12 winners of each group plus the 4 best second will be qualified.
The second draw (8th finale plus quarter finale) will take place at Nyon on 24 July. The 8th finale will be played on 29 and 30 July. The 4er finals are scheduled on 2nd August. The 4 semi finalists will be qualified for the preliminary leg of the UEFA cup,to be played on 8th and 23th August.
